He is perhaps best known for his long spell broadcasting as Dr Paul on ABC 774 and regionals from 1982 to 2009. He reluctantly gave up that role when he left to work in London as Senior Consultant, Educational Services, for the Medical Protection Society, the world’s largest medical indemnity company. Now back in Australia, he has returned to his first love, general practice, as well as continuing his teaching and risk management work. He has a wide range of clinical interests, centred primarily on internal medicine (in particular hypertension, heart and vascular disease, and their prevention), counselling, and can provide acupuncture as an option for treatment. He was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2003 “For service to medicine and the medical profession through contributions to a range of government and professional organisations and to the community through youth welfare and cultural groups.” He was awarded Fellowship of the AMA, AMA Victoria’s Gold Medal, the RACGP Victoria Faculty Medal, and the Commonwealth Government’s Centenary Medal in recognition of similar services to the community and the medical profession.
